NordicBet’s own terms do not exclude Iceland: clause 5 of its terms and conditions (V.27, dated 7 October 2026) lists the countries whose residents may not play, and Iceland is not among them. The site loaded normally for an Icelandic IP address on 9 October 2026. Icelandic customers are served by NetPlay Malta Limited, part of the Betsson Group, under Malta Gaming Authority licence MGA/CRP/1117/2025. NordicBet holds no Icelandic licence; no foreign betting site does. We are not partners with NordicBet, so this page does not link to it: it gives the facts and then shows the betting sites we list.

NordicBet draws about 210 Google searches a month in Iceland. Despite the name, it now excludes most of the Nordic region: Norway, Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands are all on its banned list, and Sweden is served by a separate company with a Swedish licence. Going by the terms, Iceland and Finland are the Nordic countries its international site still serves. Below is what we found on 9 October 2026.

NordicBet at a glance

Item What we found (9 October 2026)

Licence Malta Gaming Authority, MGA/CRP/1117/2025, issued 16 October 2025; Type 1, 2 and 3 gaming services. Status “Licensed” in the MGA register on 9 October 2026
Group Betsson Group, owned by Betsson AB, a Swedish publicly listed company
Icelandic licence None (Iceland has no licence for online casinos or foreign betting operators)
Iceland Not on the clause 5 list of excluded countries; site loaded normally from an Icelandic IP
Language No Icelandic version; English, Swedish and Finnish only
Currency EUR for Icelandic visitors; no ISK seen
Products Sportsbook, live betting, horse racing, virtual sports, casino, live casino, jackpots, poker, “The NordicBet Million”
Minimum age 18
Disputes NordicBet support, then eCOGRA as ADR (clause 15.4); Maltese law and courts (30.1)

Can you sign up to NordicBet from Iceland?

By NordicBet’s own rules, yes. Clause 5 (“Who Can Play”) says players must be “not resident in” a list that covers Norway, Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Baltic states and the whole of Canada, among many others. Iceland is not on it. An Icelandic IP address got the normal English site with no block.

Clause 5 also requires you to be “legally allowed to play Games on the Site”, and clause 7.5 makes it your responsibility to know whether your gambling is lawful where you play. Icelandic law allows money gambling only under a special act, and the only legal sports betting in Iceland is Íslenskar getraunir’s Lengjan. Players have not been prosecuted in practice, but the law restricts the promotion of unlicensed gambling. Our guide to whether online gambling is legal in Iceland covers the detail.

Licence and who runs NordicBet

NordicBet’s terms name three operating companies, all in the Betsson Group. Swedish residents use NGG Nordic Ltd under Swedish licence 23Si2179. EU residents outside Sweden use Rizk Nordic Limited. Everyone else, including Iceland, which is in the EEA but not the EU, uses NetPlay Malta Limited (clause 4.4), licence MGA/CRP/1117/2025, issued 16 October 2025.

We looked that licence up in the MGA licensee register on 9 October 2026. NetPlay Malta Ltd (registration C 81115) holds a B2C gaming service licence with status “Licensed”, covering casino and lotteries, fixed-odds and live betting, and pool betting and peer-to-peer poker and bingo. nordicbet.com appears on the record next to betsson.com and betsafe.com, so the licence facts here match our Betsson page for Iceland and our Betsafe page for Iceland.

The MGA supervises player funds, systems and anti-money-laundering checks. That is a strong European licence, but it does not make NordicBet licensed in Iceland, because Icelandic law does not recognise foreign gambling licences.

Deposits, withdrawals and fees

  • Currency: the terms accept EUR, SEK, USD, GBP, CAD or other currencies in the drop-down, and you choose one account currency based on the country you play from. Payments in another currency are converted at NordicBet’s rate and “any exchange premiums are payable by you”.
  • Krónur: no ISK option was visible on 9 October 2026, and the site served to an Icelandic IP was set to euros. At 137.0 kr. per euro (Central Bank of Iceland, 8 October 2026), €100 is 13,700 kr. before card fees; Landsbankinn adds 2.30% to foreign-currency card payments (price list of 23 April 2026).
  • Withdrawal ceiling: up to €50,000 in any 24 hours unless agreed otherwise.
  • Frequent withdrawals: after 25 approved withdrawals in a calendar month, a fee of 2% of each further withdrawal may apply, at least €5.
  • Extra accounts: one account per person; extra accounts are closed with a 10% fee (minimum €30).
  • Inactive accounts: after 12 months without a login, €5 a month is charged until the real-money balance reaches zero (clause 11.2), after an email warning 30 days before.

Bonus rules worth knowing

On 9 October 2026 the page shown to an Icelandic visitor advertised a €100 free bet and 100 cash spins for new customers. We did not read the full conditions, so treat this as a headline only. The general terms cap casino bets at €6 per round or €0.50 per line while a bonus is active (12.13), and limit winnings from any bonus or free spins received before a deposit to €100 (12.12). Free-bet rules such as minimum odds sit on the offer page itself.

Responsible gaming tools at NordicBet

Section 13 of the NordicBet terms lists the tools. Deposit limits can be set by you; a lower limit applies at once, while raising or removing one waits 24 hours. Session time limits go through support and take seven days to raise. Self-exclusion runs for a period you choose and then lifts automatically, and a Ferris and Wynne self-assessment test is on offer. The block applies to NordicBet only. Iceland has no national self-exclusion register, and the group’s other sites under the same licence are separate accounts, so exclude yourself from each one you use. Our responsible gambling guide has more ways to stay in control.

NordicBet in the Icelandic news

As of 9 October 2026 we found no fjölmiðlanefnd decision and no Icelandic news report that names NordicBet. The media-law cases in Iceland so far have targeted the outlets that carried ads, for example Síminn hf.’s ISK 1,000,000 fine in 2025 over ads for Rizk, a sister brand in the Betsson Group.

Tax on NordicBet winnings

Winnings from bets and lotteries are taxable income in Iceland under lög 90/2003, 7. gr. A-liður 4. tölul. Only the six Icelandic licensed operators, and lotteries that give all their profit to good causes, are exempt. NordicBet is a commercial operator, so its winnings are not exempt even with an EEA licence. Declare net winnings to Skatturinn.

NordicBet compared with the betting sites we list

For sports betting, the sites in our list below are the alternatives we cover in depth. The comparison is not one-sided:

Point NordicBet Betting sites in our list
Licence Malta (MGA), MGA/CRP/1117/2025 Anjouan (Comoros); none has an Icelandic licence
Icelandic interface No; English for Icelandic visitors No; English interface
Currency EUR (no ISK seen) Euro accounts only, no ISK
Sports welcome offer €100 free bet + 100 cash spins (full terms not verified) Up to 325% multi-deposit sports packages at 5x, odds of 1.80 or more, €2 maximum bet
Withdrawals Up to €50,000 per 24 hours Minimum €100 (13,700 kr.), at most €1,000 a day and €10,000 a month
Disputes eCOGRA (ADR) Operator first, then the routes in each site’s terms

NordicBet brings a European licence and a far higher withdrawal ceiling, and we say so plainly. Our listed sites offer bigger match packages with low wagering: Smash Casino‘s three-deposit sports package goes up to €5,000 at 5x, and Trixino‘s to €1,500. Weigh that against their €1,000 daily withdrawal cap.

How we checked this page

On 9 October 2026 we read NordicBet’s terms and conditions (V.27 dated 7 October 2026), including clauses 4, 5, 7.5, 8.4, 11, 12, 13, 15 and 30. We loaded nordicbet.com through an Icelandic residential IP address and noted the language, currency and offer shown. We looked up NetPlay Malta Ltd in the MGA licensee register and opened its licence record, which lists nordicbet.com. We searched fjölmiðlanefnd’s decisions and Icelandic news for NordicBet and found none. Gunnar Sigurðsson wrote the page and Helga Björnsdóttir checked the legal and tax points. We have no commercial relationship with NordicBet.

Frequently asked questions

Who runs NordicBet for Icelandic players?

NetPlay Malta Limited, a Betsson Group company, under Malta Gaming Authority licence MGA/CRP/1117/2025 (clause 4.4). The MGA register showed it as licensed on 9 October 2026, with nordicbet.com on the licence record.

Casino reviews, bonuses and games

Gunnar writes Iceland Casino's English casino reviews and bonus guides, and the pages on games such as slots and live casino. He starts every review with the casino's own terms rather than its promotion banner, and works out what a bonus costs to clear in euros and krónur before he calls it good value. He records the date he saw each offer, flags withdrawal caps and maximum-bet rules, and points out what a casino does not offer Icelandic players, such as ISK accounts. Every page he writes is checked by a second editor.
