About Iceland Casino

Who writes Iceland Casino, what each editor covers, how we check facts and how the site earns money. Independent casino guides for players in Iceland.

Iceland Casino is an independent guide to online casinos for players in Iceland, written in English and Icelandic. We are not a casino and we do not take bets. Our job is to explain, accurately, what a player in Iceland can expect from a foreign casino: the licence it holds, the terms behind its bonus, how withdrawals work in euros, and what Icelandic law says.

Many casino guides aimed at Iceland get basic facts wrong. Some tell readers that gambling on foreign sites is fully legal or that winnings are never taxed. Neither is true. Iceland has no licence for online casinos, and winnings from foreign commercial casinos are taxable income. We would rather tell readers that plainly than sell them a story.

The editorial team

Four editors write and check every page. Each has a beat, and every page is checked by a second editor before it goes live.

  • Gunnar Sigurðsson covers casino reviews, bonuses and games on our English pages. He reads each casino’s terms line by line and works out what a bonus really costs to clear.
  • Helga Björnsdóttir is our fact-checker for law, responsible gambling and terms and conditions. She checks legal statements against the law texts on althingi.is and help numbers against each organisation’s own website.
  • Kristín Óskarsdóttir is the editor of our Icelandic pages. She makes sure the Icelandic reads naturally and that the facts match the English versions.
  • Einar Jónsson covers payments, crypto and banking, including euro accounts, card fees and what Icelandic banks will and will not process.

Each page shows who wrote it, who reviewed it and when it was last updated.

How we work

Facts come from primary sources: the laws themselves, regulators’ registers, the casino’s own terms and the Central Bank of Iceland for exchange rates. When we quote an offer, we date it. When we cannot confirm something, we say so instead of guessing. You can read the details in our editorial policy and see how scores are built in how we rate casinos.

We also cover brands we do not work with, such as Coolbet and Stake, because Icelanders search for them. Those pages are factual and carry no links to the brand. See our Coolbet page for an example.

How we make money

Iceland Casino is free to read. We earn an affiliate commission when a reader opens an account at a casino in our lists through one of our links. That is how the site pays for itself. It does not change the facts we publish: every casino card names its foreign licence, its wagering and withdrawal limits and the line “Not licensed in Iceland”. Our lists only include casinos we have a commercial agreement with; we say so openly, and every other brand we write about gets the same factual treatment without links.

Safer gambling

Gambling is for adults (18+) only, and it is entertainment, not a way to earn money. If it stops being fun, call SÁÁ on 530-7600 or the Red Cross helpline 1717. Our responsible gambling page lists every Icelandic service, and our page on Icelandic gambling law explains the legal position.

Contact
