Betsafe’s own terms do not exclude Iceland: it is not on the list of countries in clause 5 of its terms and conditions (V.29, dated 7 October 2026), and the site loaded normally for a visitor with an Icelandic IP address on 9 October 2026. Icelandic customers are served by NetPlay Malta Limited, a Betsson Group company, under Malta Gaming Authority licence MGA/CRP/1117/2025. Betsafe has no Icelandic licence, and no foreign betting site does. We are not partners with Betsafe, so this page has no links to it; it gives the facts and then points to the betting sites we list.

Betsafe gets about 590 Google searches a month in Iceland. It is a sportsbook first, with in-play betting, horse racing and virtual sports, and it also runs a casino, live casino, jackpots and poker. Everything below was checked on 9 October 2026.

Can you sign up to Betsafe from Iceland?

Going by Betsafe’s terms, yes. Clause 5 (“Who Can Play”) requires players to be “not resident in” a long list of countries, including Norway, Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, the United Kingdom, Germany, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Iceland is not named. When we loaded betsafe.com from an Icelandic IP address it showed the normal English site, with no geo-block.

Clause 5 also requires you to be “legally allowed to play Games on the Site”, and clause 7.5 makes it your responsibility to know whether your gambling is lawful where you play. Icelandic law allows money gambling only under a special act, and the only legal sports betting in Iceland is Íslenskar getraunir’s Lengjan. Players have not been prosecuted in practice, but the law restricts the promotion of unlicensed gambling. Our guide to whether online gambling is legal in Iceland covers the detail.

Licence and who runs Betsafe

Betsafe has been part of the Betsson Group for years, and its terms name three operating companies. Swedish residents use BS Nordic Ltd under Swedish licence 23Si2178. EU residents outside Sweden use Rizk Nordic Limited. Players elsewhere, Iceland included (it is in the EEA, not the EU), use NetPlay Malta Limited under clause 4.4, licence MGA/CRP/1117/2025, issued 16 October 2025.

We checked that licence in the MGA licensee register on 9 October 2026. NetPlay Malta Ltd (registration C 81115) holds a B2C gaming service licence with status “Licensed” for casino and lotteries (Type 1), fixed-odds and live betting (Type 2), and pool betting and peer-to-peer poker and bingo (Type 3). betsafe.com is listed on the same record as betsson.com and nordicbet.com, which is why our Betsson review for Iceland and our NordicBet review for Iceland share much of this licence detail.

An MGA licence brings European supervision of player funds and anti-money-laundering checks. It does not make Betsafe licensed in Iceland, because Icelandic law recognises no foreign gambling licence.

Deposits, withdrawals and fees

  • Currency: the terms accept EUR, SEK, USD, GBP, CAD or other currencies in the drop-down, and you choose one account currency based on the country you play from. Payments in another currency are converted at Betsafe’s rate and “any exchange premiums are payable by you”.
  • Krónur: no ISK option was visible on 9 October 2026, and the site served to an Icelandic IP was set to euros. At 137.0 kr. per euro (Central Bank of Iceland, 8 October 2026), €100 is 13,700 kr. before card fees; Landsbankinn adds 2.30% to foreign-currency card payments (price list of 23 April 2026).
  • Withdrawal ceiling: up to €50,000 in any 24 hours unless agreed otherwise.
  • Frequent withdrawals: after 25 approved withdrawals in a calendar month, a fee of 2% of each further withdrawal may apply, at least €5.
  • Extra accounts: one account per person; extra accounts are closed with a 10% fee (minimum €30).
  • Inactive accounts: after 12 months without a login, €5 a month is charged until the real-money balance reaches zero (clause 11.2), after an email warning 30 days before.

Bonus rules worth knowing

On 9 October 2026 the page shown to an Icelandic visitor advertised a 100% bonus up to €100, plus €15 in free bets and 150 free spins. We did not read the full conditions of that offer, so treat it as a headline. The general terms say casino bonuses carry a maximum bet of €6 per round or €0.50 per line (12.13), and winnings from any bonus or free spins received before a deposit are capped at €100 (12.12). Sports offers have their own odds and wagering rules on the promotion page; read them before you opt in.

Responsible gaming tools at Betsafe

Section 13 of the Betsafe terms lists the tools. Deposit limits can be set by you; a lower limit applies at once, while raising or removing one waits 24 hours. Session time limits go through support and take seven days to raise. Self-exclusion runs for a period you choose and then lifts automatically, and a Ferris and Wynne self-assessment test is on offer. The block applies to Betsafe only. Iceland has no national self-exclusion register, and the group’s other sites under the same licence are separate accounts, so exclude yourself from each one you use. Our responsible gambling guide has more ways to stay in control.

Betsafe in the Icelandic news

We found no decision by fjölmiðlanefnd, and no Icelandic news report, naming Betsafe as of 9 October 2026. The Icelandic cases so far have concerned media outlets that ran ads for other brands, such as the ISK 1,000,000 fine on Síminn hf. in 2025 over Rizk ads; Rizk is another Betsson Group brand.

Tax on Betsafe winnings

Winnings from bets and lotteries are taxable income in Iceland under lög 90/2003, 7. gr. A-liður 4. tölul. Only the six Icelandic licensed operators, and lotteries that give all their profit to good causes, are exempt. Betsafe is a commercial operator, so its winnings are not exempt even with an EEA licence. Declare net winnings to Skatturinn.

Betsafe compared with the betting sites we list

If you want a sportsbook, the betting sites in our list below are the alternatives we review. Here is how they compare on the points that matter:

Point Betsafe Betting sites in our list
Licence Malta (MGA), MGA/CRP/1117/2025 Anjouan (Comoros); none has an Icelandic licence
Icelandic interface No; English for Icelandic visitors No; English interface
Currency EUR (no ISK seen) Euro accounts only, no ISK
Sports welcome offer 100% up to €100 + €15 free bets + 150 free spins (full terms not verified) Up to 325% multi-deposit sports packages at 5x, odds of 1.80 or more, €2 maximum bet
Withdrawals Up to €50,000 per 24 hours Minimum €100 (13,700 kr.), at most €1,000 a day and €10,000 a month
Disputes eCOGRA (ADR) Operator first, then the routes in each site’s terms

Betsafe’s MGA licence and high withdrawal ceiling are real advantages, and we say so. Our listed sites lead on bonus size and simple wagering: Trixino, Smash Casino and Wino Casino all run three-deposit sports packages at 5x. Before you chase a package, check the €1,000 daily withdrawal cap and the €2 maximum bet while a bonus is active.

How we checked this page

On 9 October 2026 we read Betsafe’s terms and conditions (V.29 dated 7 October 2026), including clauses 4, 5, 7.5, 8.4, 11, 12, 13, 15 and 30. We loaded betsafe.com through an Icelandic residential IP address and noted the language, currency and offer an Icelandic visitor sees. We looked up NetPlay Malta Ltd in the MGA licensee register and opened its licence record, which lists betsafe.com. We searched fjölmiðlanefnd’s decisions and Icelandic news for Betsafe and found none. Gunnar Sigurðsson wrote the page and Helga Björnsdóttir checked the legal and tax points. We have no commercial relationship with Betsafe.

Frequently asked questions

Does Betsafe accept players from Iceland?

According to its own terms (V.29, dated 7 October 2026), yes. Iceland is not among the countries in clause 5 whose residents may not play, and the site loaded normally from an Icelandic IP address on 9 October 2026.

Who runs Betsafe for Icelandic players?

NetPlay Malta Limited, a Betsson Group company, under Malta Gaming Authority licence MGA/CRP/1117/2025 (clause 4.4). The MGA register showed the licence as active on 9 October 2026, with betsafe.com among its listed websites.

Is Betsafe licensed in Iceland?

No. Iceland has no licence for online casinos or foreign betting operators. The only lawful sports betting product in Iceland is Lengjan, run by Íslenskar getraunir.

Is Betsafe available in Icelandic or in krónur?

No. On 9 October 2026 the site offered English, Swedish, Spanish, Finnish and a Canadian version, and an Icelandic visitor got the English site in euros. No ISK option was visible.

Are Betsafe winnings taxable in Iceland?

Yes. Betting winnings are taxable income under lög 90/2003, 7. gr. The exemption covers only Icelandic licensed operators and lotteries that give all profit to good causes, not a commercial operator like Betsafe.

Is Betsafe the same company as Betsson?

Both are Betsson Group brands. For Icelandic players both are run by NetPlay Malta Limited under the same MGA licence, but they are separate sites with separate accounts, bonuses and self-exclusions.

No. Betsafe is not a partner, so we cover it factually without links. The betting sites in our toplist are the alternatives we review for players in Iceland.

Casino reviews, bonuses and games

Gunnar writes Iceland Casino's English casino reviews and bonus guides, and the pages on games such as slots and live casino. He starts every review with the casino's own terms rather than its promotion banner, and works out what a bonus costs to clear in euros and krónur before he calls it good value. He records the date he saw each offer, flags withdrawal caps and maximum-bet rules, and points out what a casino does not offer Icelandic players, such as ISK accounts. Every page he writes is checked by a second editor.
