Betsson’s own terms do not bar players from Iceland: Iceland is not on the list of excluded countries in clause 5 of its terms and conditions (version 29, dated 30 September 2026), and the site has a full Icelandic section at betsson.com/is. Icelandic customers are served by NetPlay Malta Limited under Malta Gaming Authority licence MGA/CRP/1117/2025. Like every foreign gambling site, Betsson has no Icelandic licence. We are not partners with Betsson, so this page carries no links to it; it sets out the facts and then shows the casinos we do list as alternatives.
Betsson is one of the biggest gambling names searched in Iceland, at about 2,900 Google searches a month. It is a casino-and-sportsbook brand from the Swedish Betsson Group, with a live casino, jackpots, poker and virtual sports alongside. What follows comes from Betsson’s English and Icelandic terms, both read on 9 October 2026, from the Icelandic site as it loaded for a visitor with an Icelandic IP address that day, and from the MGA licence register.
Betsson at a glance
| Item | What we found (9 October 2026) |
|---|---|

| Licence | Malta Gaming Authority, MGA/CRP/1117/2025, issued 16 October 2025; Type 1, 2 and 3 gaming services. Status “Licensed” in the MGA register on 9 October 2026 |
| Group | Betsson Group, owned by Betsson AB, a Swedish publicly listed company |
| Icelandic licence | None (Iceland has no licence for online casinos or foreign betting operators) |
| Iceland | Not on the clause 5 list of countries whose residents may not play; the site loaded normally from an Icelandic IP |
| Icelandic version | Yes: betsson.com/is, with Icelandic menus, help pages and terms (“Skilmálar og skilyrði”, v.29) |
| Currency | Icelandic section set to EUR; no ISK option seen |
| Products | Sportsbook, live betting, esports, casino, live casino, jackpots, poker, virtual sports |
| Minimum age | 18 (clause 6.3.1) |
| Disputes | Betsson support, then eCOGRA as the free ADR body (clause 15.4); Maltese law and courts (30.1) |
Can you sign up to Betsson from Iceland?
On Betsson’s own terms, yes. Clause 5 (“Who Can Play”) says you must be “not resident in” a long list of countries. That list names Norway, Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Baltic states, among many others. Iceland is not on it, in the English version or in the Icelandic translation. The Icelandic site also loaded without any block or warning when we visited it from an Icelandic IP address on 9 October 2026.
The same clause asks you to be “legally allowed to play Games on the Site”, and clause 7.5 puts the duty on you to know whether your gambling is lawful where you play. That matters here. Icelandic law allows money gambling only under a special act, and Betsson has none. Players have not been prosecuted in practice, but the law restricts the promotion of unlicensed gambling, and Betsson’s ads cannot appear in Icelandic media. Our page on whether online gambling is legal in Iceland explains the rules in plain terms.
Betsson’s Icelandic section: what it says
betsson.com/is is a real local version, not a machine-translated landing page. The site settings list Icelandic (“is-IS”) as one of seven site languages, set to euros and to the MGA licence. The Icelandic pages have their own menu (Veðmál í beinni, Casino, Póker, Tilboð and so on), a responsible-gaming section (“Ábyrg spilamennska”) with a self-assessment test, and a translated copy of the full terms.
The Icelandic home page on 9 October 2026 showed a welcome headline of up to €500 in bonuses plus 150 free spins, and a sportsbook jackpot game called “Betsson Milljónin” with up to €1 million to win. We did not read the full conditions of either offer, so treat them as headlines only. Its help text gives a worked example of a 35x wagering requirement, and a Skrill minimum of €10 (about 1,370 kr.).
Two details are worth knowing. The footer of the Icelandic site says customers outside the EU are served by NetPlay Malta Limited, which is the company that covers Iceland. And clause 30.2 says only the English terms form the legal basis of your agreement; the Icelandic text is a courtesy translation, so the English wording wins in any dispute.
Licence and who runs Betsson
Betsson’s terms name three operating companies. Swedish residents get Spin Nordic Limited under a Swedish licence (26Si1486). EU residents outside Sweden get Rizk Nordic Limited. Everyone else, which includes Iceland because it is in the EEA but not the EU, gets NetPlay Malta Limited (clause 4.4).
We checked NetPlay Malta in the MGA’s licensee register on 9 October 2026. It shows NetPlay Malta Ltd, registration C 81115, licence MGA/CRP/1117/2025, a B2C gaming service licence with status “Licensed”, covering casino and lotteries (Type 1), fixed-odds and live betting (Type 2), and pool betting, peer-to-peer bingo and poker (Type 3). eCOGRA is the approved dispute body. The same licence record lists betsson.com, betsafe.com, nordicbet.com, casinoeuro.com and eurocasino.com, plus two Betsson domains for Latin America.
An MGA licence means a European regulator supervises the operator’s systems, player funds and anti-money-laundering checks. It does not make Betsson licensed in Iceland. Gambling has no EEA-wide licence, and Icelandic law recognises no foreign one.
Deposits, withdrawals and fees
- Currency: the terms accept EUR, SEK or other currencies in the drop-down, and you pick one account currency based on the country you play from. Payments in another currency are converted at Betsson’s rate, and “any exchange premiums are payable by you”.
- Krónur: no ISK option appeared in the Icelandic section on 9 October 2026, so plan on a euro account. At the Central Bank of Iceland rate of 137.0 kr. per euro (8 October 2026), €100 is 13,700 kr. before card fees; Landsbankinn adds 2.30% to foreign-currency card payments (price list of 23 April 2026).
- Withdrawal ceiling: up to €50,000 in any 24 hours unless Betsson agrees more.
- Frequent withdrawals: after 25 approved withdrawals in a calendar month, Betsson may charge 2% of each further withdrawal, at least €5.
- Extra accounts: one account per person; extra accounts are closed with a 10% fee (minimum €30).
- Inactive accounts: after 12 months without a login, €5 a month is charged until the real-money balance reaches zero (clause 11.2), with an email warning 30 days before.
- ID checks: Betsson may verify your identity and the source of your funds at any time (clause 6.4) and limit or close an account if documents are not supplied.
Bonus rules worth knowing
Betsson’s general bonus terms (section 12) set a maximum bet of €6 per game round, or €0.50 per line, while a casino bonus is active (12.13). Winnings from a bonus or free spins received before any deposit are capped at €100 (12.12). Offers change often, and we have not verified the full conditions of the current Icelandic welcome offer, so we do not rate it here. If you compare offers, our casino bonus guide shows how to work out what wagering really costs.
Responsible gaming tools at Betsson
Section 13 of the terms lists the tools. You can set deposit limits yourself; lowering one takes effect at once, while raising or removing it waits 24 hours. Session time limits are set through support, and raising them takes seven days. A reality-check pop-up appears every hour in casino games for players outside Sweden. Self-exclusion runs for a period you choose and then lifts automatically, and there is a Ferris and Wynne self-assessment test. Each exclusion covers Betsson only. Iceland has no national self-exclusion register, so a block here does not reach other sites, including Betsafe and NordicBet under the same licence. For more ways to stay in control, see our responsible gambling guide.
Betsson and the Icelandic regulators
No Icelandic authority has acted against Betsson itself, and none could license it. The group has met Icelandic media law once, through a sister brand. In decision 2/2025 of 14 August 2025, fjölmiðlanefnd fined Síminn hf. ISK 1,000,000 for showing ads for Rizk on Síminn Sport between December 2023 and March 2024. Rizk has belonged to the Betsson Group since Betsson bought Gaming Innovation Group’s B2C business in 2020, and Rizk Nordic Limited is now one of the companies named in Betsson’s own terms. The fine fell on the Icelandic broadcaster, not on Betsson, because the Media Act bars registered media from carrying ads for gambling that is not licensed in Iceland.
Tax on Betsson winnings
In Iceland, winnings from lotteries and bets are taxable income under the Income Tax Act (lög 90/2003, 7. gr. A-liður 4. tölul.). The exemption covers the six Icelandic licensed operators and lotteries that give all their profit to good causes. Betsson is a commercial operator, so its winnings are not exempt even with an EEA licence. Declare net winnings to Skatturinn.
Betsson compared with the casinos we list
If you came here for Betsson’s casino, the casinos in our list below are the alternatives we cover in depth. The honest comparison cuts both ways:
| Point | Betsson | Casinos in our list |
|---|---|---|
| Licence | Malta (MGA), MGA/CRP/1117/2025 | Anjouan (Comoros); none has an Icelandic licence |
| Icelandic interface | Yes (betsson.com/is) | No; English interface |
| Currency | EUR in the Icelandic section; no ISK seen | Euro accounts only, no ISK |
| Welcome offers | Headline up to €500 plus 150 free spins; full terms not verified | Multi-deposit match packages with 7x to 25x wagering |
| Withdrawals | Up to €50,000 per 24 hours | Minimum €100 (13,700 kr.), at most €1,000 a day and €10,000 a month |
| Disputes | eCOGRA (ADR) | Operator first, then the routes in each casino’s terms |
An MGA licence and an Icelandic interface are real strengths, and we say so. Where our listed casinos stand out is the size and wagering of their welcome packages: Trixino’s slots package carries 7x and Wildzy’s and Smash Casino’s 10x. Their withdrawal caps are much lower than Betsson’s, which matters if you play for large sums. Each card shows the dated offer, the licence and the line “Not licensed in Iceland”.

How we checked this page
On 9 October 2026 we read Betsson’s English terms and conditions (V.29 dated 30 September 2026) and the Icelandic translation (v.29 dagsettur 30. september 2026), including clauses 4, 5, 6, 7.5, 8.4, 11, 12, 13, 15 and 30. We loaded betsson.com/is through an Icelandic residential IP address and recorded what an Icelandic visitor sees, including the site’s language and currency settings. We looked up NetPlay Malta Ltd in the MGA licensee register (last updated 9 October 2026) and opened its licence record. We also read fjölmiðlanefnd’s decision 2/2025 and Betsson AB’s 2020 press release on the GiG B2C deal. Gunnar Sigurðsson wrote the page and Helga Björnsdóttir checked the legal and tax points. We have no commercial relationship with Betsson.
Frequently asked questions
Does Betsson accept players from Iceland?
According to its own terms (version 29, dated 30 September 2026), yes. Iceland is not on the list of countries in clause 5 whose residents may not play, and Betsson runs an Icelandic-language section at betsson.com/is. Clause 7.5 still makes you responsible for checking that playing is lawful where you are.
Is Betsson licensed in Iceland?
No. Icelandic players are served by NetPlay Malta Limited under Malta Gaming Authority licence MGA/CRP/1117/2025, which the MGA register listed as licensed on 9 October 2026. Iceland issues no licences to online casinos or foreign betting operators, so no foreign site holds an Icelandic licence.
Can I play at Betsson in Icelandic krónur?
No ISK option was visible on 9 October 2026. The Icelandic section is set up with euros as its currency, and the terms accept EUR, SEK and other currencies in the drop-down. Expect a euro account plus a currency fee from your bank, for example Landsbankinn’s 2.30% on foreign-currency card payments.
Is Betsson in Icelandic?
Yes. betsson.com/is has an Icelandic interface, Icelandic terms and an Icelandic help section. Under clause 30.2 only the English version of the terms is legally binding, so check the English text if the two ever differ.
Are Betsson winnings taxable in Iceland?
Yes. Winnings from lotteries and bets are taxable income under lög 90/2003, 7. gr. Only the six Icelandic licensed operators, and lotteries that give all their profit to good causes, are exempt. A commercial operator such as Betsson does not qualify.
Which other brands share Betsson’s licence?
The MGA register lists betsson.com, betsafe.com, nordicbet.com, casinoeuro.com, eurocasino.com and two Latin American Betsson domains under the same NetPlay Malta licence. A self-exclusion at Betsson does not automatically cover those sites.
Does Iceland Casino link to Betsson?
No. Betsson is not a partner, so we describe it factually and do not link to it. The casinos in our toplist are the alternatives we review and rank for players in Iceland.
