Is LeoVegas available in Iceland? What its own terms and an Icelandic-IP check show, its MGA licence, MGM ownership, payouts, tax and alternatives.

LeoVegas does not exclude Iceland in its own terms, and when we opened leovegas.com from an Icelandic connection on 9 October 2026 we got its international site with a sign-up button and a welcome offer, not a block message. The operator is LeoVegas Gaming Plc in Malta, licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority under MGA/CRP/237/2013, and the group has been owned by MGM Resorts International since 2022. Like every foreign gambling site, LeoVegas has no Icelandic licence. We are not partners with LeoVegas, so there are no links to it here, only facts and the casinos we list as alternatives.

LeoVegas is a mobile-first casino with a sportsbook, and it draws about 260 Google searches a month in Iceland. Some guides say it shows Icelandic visitors an “isn’t available in your country” message; that is not what we saw on the date above.

Can you sign up to LeoVegas from Iceland?

On LeoVegas’ own terms, yes. The Terms and Conditions (version 2.9, October 2026) ask you to confirm in clause 4.1.5 that you are not resident in “Afghanistan, Curacao, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Somalia, Syria, U.S.A, Yemen or any other jurisdiction where Your participation would be in conflict with any applicable law”. Iceland is not named.

The site itself agreed. Loaded from an Icelandic IP address, leovegas.com detected the visitor as Iceland, served the international English site with a “Sign up” button and the casino welcome offer, and its configuration mapped Iceland to the Maltese MGA licence with no country block. We did not complete a registration, so the final account checks are untested.

The catch-all at the end of clause 4.1.5, together with clause 4.1.2 (“it is entirely and solely Your responsibility to enquire and ensure that You do not breach laws applicable to You”), puts the legal question on the player. The law in Iceland is set out on our page on whether online gambling is legal in Iceland: no Icelandic licence exists for foreign operators, but players have not been prosecuted for playing abroad.

Licence and who runs LeoVegas

LeoVegas began in Sweden and runs its international business from Malta. The Malta Gaming Authority’s register lists LeoVegas Gaming plc under MGA/CRP/237/2013 as “Licensed”, with leovegas.com, expekt.com, royalpanda.com and gogocasino.com as its domains. MGM Resorts International completed its tender offer for LeoVegas in September 2022, so the brand now sits inside the US casino group. Separate local licences cover markets such as Sweden, Denmark and the UK.

An MGA licence brings European supervision of the operator’s systems, money-laundering checks and player funds. It does not make LeoVegas licensed in Iceland, which recognises no foreign gambling licence. For disputes, clause 22 says LeoVegas aims to answer complaints within 10 days, then lets you escalate free of charge to eCOGRA; an eCOGRA decision binds LeoVegas for claims up to €5,000.

Deposits, withdrawals and ID checks

  • Currency: the offer and terms shown to an Icelandic visitor were in euros. Clause 11.10 says LeoVegas takes several currencies and that “any potential exchange premiums or charges are payable by You”. We saw no krónur. Landsbankinn, for example, adds 2.30% to foreign-currency card payments (price list of 23 April 2026).
  • Withdrawal speed: clause 16.4 says LeoVegas strives to process withdrawals within 24 hours once your ID documents are in, and always within five working days.
  • Same method: withdrawals go back to the method you deposited with where possible (16.5).
  • ID checks: LeoVegas may hold your account until verification is complete; under-age accounts are closed and deposits returned without winnings (8.4).
  • Inactive accounts: after 12 months without login and with money in the account, LeoVegas may charge €5 a month, after at least 30 days’ notice (18.1 to 18.4).

The welcome offer we saw

An Icelandic visitor on 9 October 2026 saw a casino offer of “Up to €1,000 and 2,600 Free Spins”. The small print shown with it covered the spins: new customers only, opt in and deposit €20 or more within 7 days, then wager 35x within 14 days on eligible casino games (live casino and table games excluded) to unlock up to 2,600 free spins worth €0.20 each on Gates of Olympus Super Scatter, with a 3-day expiry. We did not read the full bonus terms for the €1,000 part, so we do not describe it. Our casino bonus guide shows how to work out what a 35x requirement costs in practice.

Responsible gaming tools at LeoVegas

Clause 19 lets you self-exclude for a set period, indefinitely or permanently. A set-period exclusion can be reversed after a one-day cool-off, an indefinite one after seven days, and a permanent one never. Limits work the usual way: lowering a limit applies at once, raising it waits a day. LeoVegas notes that limits set on leovegas.com do not carry over to its other brands. Iceland has no national self-exclusion register, so no block reaches beyond the site where you set it. Our responsible gambling guide lists the tools worth setting before the first deposit.

LeoVegas in Iceland: news and media

We searched fjölmiðlanefnd’s decisions on 9 October 2026 and found none naming LeoVegas. That differs from Coolbet, PokerStars and Rizk, whose adverts on Icelandic media have drawn findings under the Media Act.

Tax on LeoVegas winnings

Clause 4.1.7 makes you responsible for any tax on your winnings. In Iceland, winnings from bets and games are taxable income (lög 90/2003, 7. gr. A-liður 4. tölul.). The exemptions cover the six Icelandic special-act operators and lotteries licensed in Iceland or elsewhere in the EEA whose whole profit goes to good causes (30. gr.). A commercial operator such as LeoVegas meets neither condition, so declare its winnings to Skatturinn.

LeoVegas compared with the casinos we list

Point LeoVegas Casinos in our list
Licence Malta (MGA) Anjouan (Comoros); none licensed in Iceland
Operator LeoVegas Gaming Plc (MGM Resorts group) Exceptiosoft LTD and Softon Ltd
Currency Euros; no ISK seen Euro accounts only, no ISK
Welcome offer Up to €1,000 plus up to 2,600 spins; spins need 35x play Multi-deposit match packages, 7x to 25x wagering; no free spins
Withdrawals Within 24 hours targeted, 5 working days at most Minimum €100 (13,700 kr.), at most €1,000 a day and €10,000 a month
Icelandic language No No; English interface

LeoVegas has the stronger licence and a big-group owner, and its withdrawal promise is clearer. The casinos we list win on wagering: Trixino’s slots package carries 7x and Smash Casino’s 10x, against 35x for the LeoVegas spins. Their withdrawal caps are the trade-off to weigh.

Alternatives to LeoVegas for players in Iceland

How we checked this page

On 9 October 2026 we loaded leovegas.com through an Icelandic connection, noted the market, licence and country settings in the page code, and read the Terms and Conditions, version 2.9 (October 2026), including clauses 3, 4.1, 8, 11.10, 16, 18, 19 and 22. We checked the licence on the Malta Gaming Authority’s register, confirmed the MGM tender offer in MGM’s own quarterly filing, and searched fjölmiðlanefnd’s decisions. Gunnar Sigurðsson wrote the page and Helga Björnsdóttir checked the legal and tax points. We have no commercial relationship with LeoVegas.

Frequently asked questions

Is LeoVegas available in Iceland?

According to LeoVegas, yes. Iceland is not on the restricted list in clause 4.1.5 of its terms (version 2.9, October 2026), and on 9 October 2026 an Icelandic connection got the international site with a sign-up button, not a block message.

Does LeoVegas hold an Icelandic licence?

No, it holds a Maltese one: LeoVegas Gaming Plc has Malta Gaming Authority licence MGA/CRP/237/2013. Iceland licenses no online casinos and does not recognise foreign gambling licences.

Is LeoVegas part of MGM Resorts?

Yes. MGM Resorts International completed its tender offer for LeoVegas in September 2022. The Icelandic-facing site is run by LeoVegas Gaming Plc in Malta.

Can I play at LeoVegas in Icelandic krónur?

We saw no ISK option. The offer and terms shown to an Icelandic visitor were in euros, and clause 11.10 says exchange charges are paid by the player.

How fast does LeoVegas pay out?

Clause 16.4 says it aims to process withdrawals within 24 hours once your ID is verified, and in all cases within five working days.

Are LeoVegas winnings taxable in Iceland?

Yes. Winnings from bets and games are taxable income under lög 90/2003, 7. gr. The exemptions cover Iceland’s special-act operators and licensed charity lotteries in Iceland or the EEA, not a commercial operator like LeoVegas.

Casino reviews, bonuses and games

Gunnar writes Iceland Casino's English casino reviews and bonus guides, and the pages on games such as slots and live casino. He starts every review with the casino's own terms rather than its promotion banner, and works out what a bonus costs to clear in euros and krónur before he calls it good value. He records the date he saw each offer, flags withdrawal caps and maximum-bet rules, and points out what a casino does not offer Icelandic players, such as ISK accounts. Every page he writes is checked by a second editor.
